German prices rose once more, by two euros on the Premium plan:

Why Netflix is a different case
With most subscriptions, sharing sits in a grey area. Netflix settled the question explicitly: since 2023 an account belongs to a household, and anyone outside it is added as an extra member. That is the official, intended route — not something merely tolerated.
Netflix reliably detects access from outside the household and asks for verification. That is the decisive difference from services where nobody is looking.
What the extra member costs — and who books it
The Standard plan allows one extra member, Premium allows two. The account holder pays; the extra member gets their own profile with their own password and their own recommendations.

The distance between the official extra member and a shared slot is €27.84 a year. That is real money — but it is not the halving you get with services that never check.
Which route fits
- Do you live with someone who has Netflix? Then you need nothing at all — one account covers the household.
- Does a family member on Premium live elsewhere? The extra member at €5.99 is the clean route. No verification trouble, no risk of losing access.
- Do you know nobody with a plan and want to pay as little as possible? Then the shared slot is the cheapest option — with the caveats below.
- Do ads not bother you? Your own ad-supported plan at €6.99 is a serious alternative: full catalogue, your own account, no dependency on anyone.
What you accept with a shared slot
- Netflix actively checks. Unlike other services the household rule is enforced technically. If access looks wrong, verification can be demanded.
- You are not the account holder. The slot hangs on someone else’s account.
- Support sits with the platform. Netflix is not responsible for the arrangement.
- No VPN as a workaround. We explicitly advise against trying to get around the household check with a VPN. It draws attention rather than avoiding it, and it contradicts the terms of use.
